When it comes to security, there is no compromise for threats. As a leading website administration software in the market, cPanel understands the need for security and safety measures. Along with the latest cPanel version, version 11, major security upgrades and new utilities are provided to keep cPanel users protected against growing security threats in the net.

One of the many new security utilities of cPanel includes Public Key Authentication, which lets the users to have their own public and private key to access their server. A public key encrypts data that can only be decrypted by its pair of private key, thus lessening the risk of information hijacking. The use of public and private keys mean only users with access to private keys can access the servers. It also eliminates the use of authentication via password that is less secure.

Another new utility offered is the cPHulk Brute Force Protection, which protects vital services, such as the cPanel, WHM, SSH, FTP, IMAP and POP3, by refusing authentication to those services if a brute force is detected. A special feature of the cPHulk is although it locks out the attacker, it does not show. Therefore, the attacker will feel as if his attempt has not been detected. The user can then retrieve important information about the attacker. The cPHulk also allows the user to customize authentication thresholds and lock out times.

Aside from the cPHulk, the cPanel also provides host access control that allows users to set their access preferences. As refusing access to services may not always be the most realistic way to provide security, users can choose to provide access only to a specific set of IP address or block it. The Host Access Control feature, with its simple and easy to use interface, helps user protect their website from unwanted access.

Last but not least, the latest cPanel version is also equipped with enhanced XSS protection to protect cPanel users from cross-site scripting (XSS). XSS is a type of security vulnerability where malicious code is injected into the website. This security exploit can be used by attackers to bypass access controls and has been exploited to phishing attacks. Often, a website may look “normal” to the user but is actually a fake site used to retrieve sensitive information by the attacker.

In short, the cPanel is not only easy to use, it is also secure. With its improved security upgrades, it is safe to say that cPanel can protect the users from security threats.
