cPanel is a web based graphical control panel specifically designed to help automate many website administering functions. There are many advantages in using cPanel. For one, because it is web based, it is available 24/7 and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The cPanel is also very easy to use and has many excellent features, including an easy to use file manager, pre-installed scripts and protection against security threats.

Although the latest version of cPanel comes with a special software that easily uploads files as if it is a part of the local file system, there are occasions where users need to manage their files through a web based file manager. Luckily, the cPanel has an excellent web based file manager that makes uploading or downloading files easy and quick.

Uploading files with cPanel is very easy. To use the file manager, first you need to open your browser and type in the URL address of your cPanel. Usually, the cPanel is located at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel or http://www.yourdomain.com:2082. A login menu will appear and an authentication window prompting for your username and password will pop up. After you’ve inputted your username and password, click the OK button. If your login information is cleared, your browser should load the cPanel main menu.

On the menu, you will be greeted with a list of icons. To access the file manager, click on the File Manager icon. The File Manager page will load and show the list of available folders on your server. To upload a file, first you need to determine which folder you are going to upload your file to. Click a folder name to access the folder. For example, if you are going to upload a file named “test.html” to folder www, first you need to click on the www folder icon. To know which folder you are currently in, you can look at the top of the list of folders.

Once you have chosen your targeted folder, you can then proceed to click on the Upload File(s) link. Afterwards, a page will load to allow you to choose which files you want to upload. You can upload up to 12 files at once. To locate your files, click on the Browse button. To upload your files, click the Upload button. If your files have been successfully uploaded, they will appear in your selected folder. Voila, you’re done!
